Adjustable Wedge Pillow: 7 Ways to Set Up the Talus

Talus Adjustable Bed Wedge set to a low incline at the head of a bed

1. Start with a low incline for resting

An adjustable wedge pillow is a set of foam pieces you rearrange to change the incline. The Talus has three: two wedge bases and a contoured headrest, held together by a wide strap. For a low incline, set the pieces so your upper body rests on a gentle slope with the headrest at the top. The listing describes 20 arrangements and up to 12 inches of lift, so begin low and raise it only if you want more.

2. Stack it higher for reading

For sitting up with a book or a tablet, arrange the bases into the steeper setup against the headboard and put the headrest behind your head. When you are done reading, drop it back to the lower incline in under a minute.

3. Measure the bed before you choose a setup

Assembled, the Talus takes up 60 x 66 cm of the bed and stands up to 30.5 cm tall (23.6 x 26 x 12 in). That is one sleeper's width, so the other side of the bed stays free. More on shapes in the wedge pillow guide. The contoured headrest piece is 22 cm.

4. Move the pieces under your legs

Leg elevation is one of the listed arrangements. Place the pieces under the knees or the lower legs instead of behind your back, with the slope rising toward your feet. Keep the strap fastened, so the pieces move as one and do not slide apart on the sheet. This is a comfort and positioning product, not a medical device.

5. Lock every setup with the strap

A wide touch-fastening strap runs across the assembled pieces. Fasten it each time you change the arrangement, because the strap is what stops the pieces sliding apart. That is the difference between an adjustable wedge and a stack of loose pillows. If you want a small wedge behind your back for a side-lying position instead, see the Harbor side-positioning wedge.

6. Wash the covers, not the foam

The top piece has a quilted cover and the wedge bases have grey-blue velvet covers. All of them zip off. Machine wash the covers cold on a gentle cycle, then air dry flat or tumble dry low. Do not wash the foam cores. If they get damp, blot them and let them air dry fully before putting the covers back on. New foam can be aired for 24 to 48 hours before first use.

7. Fold it flat when you are done

The Talus folds flat and carries by its built-in handle. Use the strap to hold it closed, then store it under the bed or upright in a cupboard, with nothing heavy on top of the foam. For sitting upright with armrests rather than an incline, see the backrest pillow guide.

FAQ

What is an adjustable wedge pillow?

An adjustable wedge pillow is made of separate foam pieces you rearrange to change the incline. The Talus has three memory-foam pieces held together by a wide touch-fastening strap, with 20 listed arrangements.

How high does the Talus go?

Assembled it measures 60 x 66 x 30.5 cm (23.6 x 26 x 12 in), so the highest setup lifts the head and torso up to 12 inches. Lower arrangements give a gentler incline.

Can I use the Talus under my legs?

Yes. Leg elevation is one of the listed arrangements: the pieces go under the knees or the lower legs instead of behind the back.

Is the Talus for side sleeping?

It is an incline wedge for raising the head, torso or legs. For a small wedge that sits behind the back in a side-lying position, see the Harbor Side Sleep Support Wedge.

How do I wash it?

Unzip the covers and machine wash them cold on a gentle cycle, then air dry flat or tumble dry low. Do not wash the foam cores.
