US pillow sizes: Standard 20 × 26 in (51 × 66 cm), Queen 20 × 30 in (51 × 76 cm), King 20 × 36 in (51 × 91 cm), Euro 26 × 26 in (66 × 66 cm) and Body 20 × 54 in (51 × 137 cm). A queen bed usually takes two standard or two queen pillows; a king bed takes two king pillows or three standard.

Measurements are the pillow's flat outer dimensions. Real pillows vary by a centimeter or two between brands, and a very full pillow looks shorter once it's plumped.

If you're buying bedding from another country, compare centimeters rather than size names — a “standard” in one country isn't always a standard in another.
Throw and lumbar pillow sizes
- Square throw pillows: 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24 in (40–60 cm). 18 and 20 in are the most common on sofas; 20–24 in suit beds and deep sofas.
- Lumbar: 12 × 20 in, 14 × 24 in, and long bolsters around 12 × 36 in.
- Inserts: for a full look, choose an insert about 2 in (5 cm) larger than the cover — for example a 22 in insert in a 20 in cover.
Which size should you choose?
- Standard suits most people and the widest range of pillowcases.
- Queen gives a little more room if you move around.
- King is best for wide beds and for propping yourself up against the headboard.
