A rearing horse is the hardest thing to put on a shelf — the whole animal balanced on two hind legs, which is why most versions cheat with a steel rod up the belly or an oversized plinth.

Prance earns the pose instead. Muscle and tendon run through the chest and haunch, the mane falls in separate strands, the tail fans as it drops. Motion held still.

Care

Dust with a soft dry brush rather than a cloth — it slips between the mane strands and the raised forelegs. Keep it out of long direct sun, and skip polish and solvents: the finish sits on the surface of the resin.

Every rearing horse I looked at either had a visible metal rod or sat on a plinth the size of a coaster. This one balances on the two back legs and the tail, and once you see it you cannot unsee how neatly it is done. Solid on my oak console, no lean, no wobble when the drawer below shuts. Gold is warmer than it looks online

I hesitated over the gold expecting something brash and it is not — matte, quite antique, with darker shading down in the muscle so it does not glare under a lamp. Against a walnut console it looks properly expensive.

Cast resin with a painted matte finish, not solid bronze, brass or stone. At 550 g it sits down properly on a shelf. What you are getting is the modelling and the free-standing pose.

Does it really stand on its own?

Yes, with no rod, wire or wall support. The long tail falls to the ground behind the hooves and acts as a third contact point alongside the two hind legs, and the weight sits low so the centre of gravity is under the belly. The flat oval underside sits level.
