A rearing horse is pure motion frozen — and this decorative horse statue captures it without any visible tricks. Cast in resin and standing 30.5 cm tall, it balances on two hind legs because the tail sweeps down to the floor and carries the weight, so there's no rod and no plinth to spoil the line.

Choose from three finishes to match your shelves, desk, or sideboard.

  • Rearing pose in cast resin, 30.5 cm tall
  • Tail carries the weight — no rod, no plinth
  • Stands balanced on its two hind legs
  • Available in three finishes to suit your space

Cast resin with a matte painted finish

Overview

A rearing horse is the hardest subject to put on a shelf, the whole animal balanced on two hind legs, and most versions cheat with a steel rod up the belly or an oversized plinth.

Paddock earns the pose. Muscle and tendon run through the chest and haunch, the mane falls in separate strands and the tail fans out as it drops: movement held still.

Care

Dust with a soft, dry brush in preference to a cloth, because it gets between the strands of the mane and the raised forelegs. Keep it out of long, direct sun, and do not use polish or solvents: the finish lies on the surface of the resin.

Materials

Cast resin with a painted matte finish, not solid bronze, brass or stone. Three finishes from one mould, each with a matching base.

  • Size: 30.5 cm tall, 17 cm long, 8 cm deep, 550 g
  • Detail: modelled muscle and tendon, a mane cut in separate strands, and a long tail that reaches the ground as a third support
  • Base: flat oval that sits level
  • Finishes: Antique Gold (warm matte gold on a mottled dark-bronze base), Chalk White (soft matte white), Charcoal (deep matte black)

Console-worthy scale

Large enough to carry a shelf

It has enough presence to carry a console, a mantel or a wide desk corner alone, with no group of smaller objects around it. Give it a clear, level spot.

The three finishes side by side: antique gold, chalk white and charcoal

Pick a finish

Three finishes of one shape

One mould in three finishes. Antique Gold is warm and matte on a mottled bronze rock base, Chalk White looks like plaster, and Charcoal has the strongest outline against light paint. The shape and the price are the same, so choose by the wall behind it.

The engineering

How it stays upright

The tail falls to the ground in one thick mass behind the hooves and works as a third leg, with no rod, plinth or wire. The weight is kept low, in the base and hind legs, so it sits solidly.

★★★★★

It stands without a rod

Every rearing horse I looked at either had a visible metal rod or sat on a plinth the size of a coaster. This one balances on the two back legs and the tail, and once you see it you cannot unsee how neatly it is done. Solid on my oak console, no lean, no wobble when the drawer below shuts. Went for the charcoal against a pale wall and the outline reads beautifully.

It needs its own space and earns it

It needs its own space and it earns it. The mane is properly cut into strands rather than one smooth lump, which is what makes it look like a sculpture rather than a gift-shop thing. Sits down solid on the console with no lean.

Gold is warmer than it looks online

I hesitated over the gold expecting something brash and it is not — matte, quite antique, with darker shading down in the muscle so it does not glare under a lamp. Against a walnut console it looks properly expensive.

Frequently asked questions

Is it bronze, or resin?
Cast resin with a painted matte finish, not solid bronze, brass or stone. At 550 g it sits properly on a shelf. What you get is the modelling and the free-standing pose.
Does it really stand unsupported?
Yes, with no rod, wire or wall support. The long tail reaches the ground behind the hooves and gives a third point of contact with the two hind legs, and the weight is low, so the centre of gravity is under the belly. The flat oval underside sits level.
How much room does it need?
30.5 cm tall, 17 cm long and 8 cm deep: a piece for a console, mantel, credenza or wide desk corner, made to be seen from a couple of metres away.
Which finish should I pick?
All three share the mould, size and price, so choose by the wall behind it. Antique Gold is a warm matte gold with darker shading in the muscle on a mottled bronze base, the richest of the three and strongest against dark walls and wood. Chalk White is quiet and sculptural and looks best with some contrast behind it. Charcoal has the strongest outline against light paint and shows dust least.
