Can You Bring an Umbrella to Disney World, Disneyland or a Ballpark?

Calm Eden Journal · Updated October 22, 2026

Short answer

Walt Disney World and Disneyland do not name umbrellas on their official prohibited-items pages, and Disney’s planDisney panelists say umbrellas are allowed, though both parks reserve the right to restrict other items. Yankee Stadium allows small umbrellas but not large or golf ones, and Wrigley Field bans umbrellas with metal tips or larger than 10 inches while allowing small, collapsible ones. Rules change, so check each venue’s current page before you go.

Rules differ by venue, and they change

There is no single rule for umbrellas at parks and stadiums. Each venue writes its own, and the wording ranges from silence to a size limit. Below is what each official page said when we read it on October 22, 2026, with the page named so you can check it yourself.

Venue What the official page says about umbrellas Where to read it
Walt Disney World Umbrellas are not named on the prohibited-items list. Disney reserves the right to prohibit any other item not listed. Property Rules, Policies & Regulations
Disneyland Resort Umbrellas are not named on the prohibited-items list. Disney reserves the right to prohibit any other item it decides may be harmful or disruptive. Park Rules and Regulations
Yankee Stadium Small umbrellas are permitted, if the open umbrella protects only the person holding it and does not block others’ view. Large and golf umbrellas are not permitted. Yankee Stadium A–Z guide, “Umbrellas” entry
Wrigley Field The prohibited list includes “Umbrellas with metal tips and umbrellas larger than 10 inches (small, collapsible umbrellas are permitted).” Wrigley Field security page

We describe each rule as the venue states it and no more. If a page was not clear, we say so.

Walt Disney World

The official Property Rules, Policies & Regulations page for Walt Disney World Resort has a long prohibited-items list covering things like selfie sticks, hand-held extension poles, wagons and oversized strollers. Umbrellas do not appear on it. The page also says Disney reserves the right to prohibit the use or storage of any other item not listed, and the right not to allow any bag, parcel or other item.

So the rules page itself does not say “umbrellas are allowed.” It just does not ban them. For a direct answer, Disney runs planDisney, a Q&A where panelists reply to guest questions. These answers carry a note that policies may have changed, so treat them as guidance, not the rule. Three of them are useful:

  • In July 2024 a panelist wrote that umbrellas are permitted in the Walt Disney World theme parks, suggested a folding one, and said to take it out of your bag and hold it visibly at screening, or the bag may be searched.
  • In April 2023 another panelist said you may bring an umbrella into a theme park, and that you may be asked to hold it, folded, out in front of you when passing through the security scanners. Anything too large, the answer added, may be cumbersome on attraction vehicles.
  • In September 2023, about Magic Kingdom, a panelist said guests are permitted to bring umbrellas, that you may be asked to close yours during shows and parades as a safety measure and a courtesy to others, and that it can be difficult to carry one on certain rides. The same answer mentions lockers where you can store items for a time.

Disneyland Resort

The official Park Rules and Regulations page for the Disneyland Resort lists prohibited items such as weapons, drones, wagons, folding chairs and selfie sticks. Umbrellas are not on it. As at Walt Disney World, Disney reserves the right to prohibit the use or storage of any other item not listed that it determines may be harmful or disruptive, and the page says its rules are subject to change at any time without notice.

On planDisney, a panelist wrote in March 2025: “Whether for rain or sun, umbrellas are allowed at the Disneyland Resort!” The panelist advised checking the Prohibited Items List and renting a locker if you do not want to carry one all day. A January 2023 answer said umbrellas are allowed inside both theme parks.

Yankee Stadium

The Yankees’ official A–Z guide has an “Umbrellas” entry. It says: “Small umbrellas are permitted in Yankee Stadium; however, an umbrella may only be used if, when open, it provides protection only to the Guest holding it and does not interfere with other Guests’ enjoyment of the event or compromise other Guests’ ability to view the event. Large and/or golf umbrellas are not permitted in Yankee Stadium.” It adds that guests may be asked to close an umbrella that obstructs the view of others.

The page does not define “small” in inches. If you are unsure whether yours counts, ask the stadium before you travel.

Wrigley Field

The Cubs’ Wrigley Field security page lists prohibited items. One line reads: “Umbrellas with metal tips and umbrellas larger than 10 inches (small, collapsible umbrellas are permitted).” The Cubs’ A–Z guide also lists, among prohibited actions, obstructing other guests’ views of the field with excessive standing or objects, giving “large umbrellas” as an example. All bags and items are subject to inspection.

The page does not say how an umbrella’s size is measured, for example folded length or open width. A limit of 10 inches is small, so confirm with the ballpark before you bring one, and check whether the tip is metal.

Other parks and stadiums

Every venue publishes its own rule, usually on a prohibited-items page, an A–Z guide or a bag policy. Do not assume that one park’s answer applies to another, and if you cannot find a rule for a specific venue, check the venue’s current rules or contact it rather than guessing. Venues can change their rules, so read the current page rather than relying on an old answer.

Practical tips for queues, shows and heat

Where umbrellas are allowed, a few habits keep you and the people around you comfortable.

  • Go compact. The panelists’ common advice is a small, folding umbrella that fits in a bag. Our compact travel umbrella guide and mini vs compact umbrella guide help you choose, and umbrella sizes explains the numbers on a label.
  • Clip it to your bag. A loop keeps your hands free in queues and on ride platforms. See how a carabiner handle works.
  • Fold it for security and rides. Disney panelists suggest holding it folded and visible at screening and note that umbrellas can be awkward on attractions. Fold it before you reach the front of the line.
  • Close it for shows and parades. You may be asked to, and it is courteous either way.
  • Use it for shade too. Long waits in Florida or California sun are easier with shade overhead, and a sun umbrella follows the same rules as a rain umbrella. It adds shade but does not replace sunscreen. Our sun umbrella for walking guide has more.
  • Check airline rules separately. If you are flying in, how to pack an umbrella for travel covers carry-on questions.

In a thunderstorm, put the umbrella away and go indoors; an umbrella is never lightning protection.

Before you go What to do Why
Read the current page Open the venue’s own rules page the week you travel. Rules can change without notice; the Disneyland page says so explicitly.
Choose a compact one Pick an umbrella that folds small and fits in your bag. Venues talk about “small,” “large” and “golf” umbrellas, and bags may be inspected at the gate.
Clip it to the bag Use a loop or clip so your hands stay free. Queues and ride loading are easier without an umbrella in your hand.
Know when to close it Close it in crowds, shows, parades and stands. Disney panelists and the Yankees both ask guests not to block others’ view.
Pack the sun plan Carry sunscreen and a hat as well as shade. An umbrella adds shade; it does not replace sunscreen.

How Haven fits

Whether any umbrella suits a given venue depends on that venue’s current rule, and we do not claim Haven meets a particular size limit; where umbrellas are allowed, the Haven Umbrella by Calm Eden has 30 carbon fibre ribs and is storm-proof, with an SPF 50+ canopy that blocks 99.99% of UV and keeps it up to 8°C / 15°F cooler underneath. One press opens and closes it. It folds to 40 cm (15.75 in), weighs about 390 g and opens to about 105 cm. A swivel carabiner handle clips to a bag, reflective strips help in low light, and the fabric is OEKO-TEX certified. It is made in Japan and comes in seven colours: Black, Cream White, Beige, Gray, Blue, Pink and Green, with a lifetime warranty.

Shipping is free worldwide in 4–7 days with no import duties. The 30 Day Money Back Guarantee accepts opened or used umbrellas with free returns. Every order includes the Wellness Journal (digital) and a Carry Sleeve; Buy 2 Get 1 Free adds the UV Charm and the Rain Poncho, and Buy 3 Get 2 Free also adds the Haven SPF 50+ Silk Square Scarf.
