Silent Wall Clock for a Bedroom: Movement, Size and Style Guide
Share
Calm Eden Sleep Journal · Updated September 2026
For a bedroom, choose a clock whose listing specifies a quiet or sweeping movement, then pick a diameter that reads from your pillow without dominating the wall. An 8–12 in clock fits many small wall areas; 14–16 in makes more of a decor statement. A flip clock is different—it moves a card each minute and may click. Ask about mounting hardware and batteries if the listing does not say what is included.
A clock can be visually calming and still annoy you at night if its movement ticks in a quiet room. Before choosing a color or material, decide whether you want a wall clock you can barely hear, a mechanical flip you deliberately notice or no clock at all. Then measure the wall, not just the bed: a beautiful clock looks cramped if a doorframe or shelf sits beside it.
What "silent" means in a product listing
Many modern quartz clocks use a sweeping movement instead of a hand that steps sharply once per second. Their listings may call that "silent" or "non-ticking". That is a statement about the maker's design, not a universal decibel rating: motor sounds, room acoustics and a person's hearing differ. Calm Eden has not measured these clocks in a silent room. If complete silence is essential, ask support for the exact movement before ordering.
A flip clock is a different experience. Lull moves a physical card each minute and its listing describes a soft audible click; it should not be grouped with quiet sweeping wall clocks.
Choose a diameter for your wall
| Approximate clock size | Where it fits visually | Check from the bed |
|---|---|---|
| 8 in / 20 cm | Narrow wall between a wardrobe and door, or above a small desk | Numerals and hands may be harder to read from across the room |
| 10–12 in / 25–30 cm | Most modest bedroom walls | Usually a balance of readability and empty space |
| 14–16 in / 35–40 cm | Open wall above a dresser or between larger furniture | More prominent; check clearance above a headboard |
Cut a paper circle to the intended diameter and tape it where the clock would hang. Sit on the bed and look at it from your usual position. This is more reliable than judging size from a tightly cropped product photo. The pillow-size chart may help if you are styling the entire bed, but it is not a guide to clock mounting.
Four wall-clock styles we stock
- Stone statement: Alabaster has a pale travertine face with a raised moon detail and selectable 12, 14 and 16 in sizes. Its listing describes a quiet movement, but does not specify batteries or included mounting hardware.
- Minimal glass face: Still lists a sweeping, quiet movement, tempered-glass lens and raised numerals; sizes 8, 10 and 12 in are currently selectable.
- Open frame: Serene is a 40 cm iron clock with Roman numerals and an open center. Its listing says quiet quartz movement, one AA battery and a single-nail hanging point.
- Frameless numerals: Hover mounts individual numerals around a central hub for a 40 cm composition. Check the wall surface and installation instructions before choosing a frameless design.
These are listing-based comparisons, not a hands-on ranking. Natural-stone appearance, finish and exact shades can vary in product photos and room light.
Mounting and power checklist
- Check the wall material and use a suitable fastener for its weight. Do not guess that a picture hook works for a stone clock.
- Confirm the size and whether you have room to open a battery compartment without taking down nearby decor.
- Look for the battery type and whether one is included. If a listing omits this, ask support; Alabaster's current page does not state battery or hardware contents.
- Hang the clock where you can read it from bed but not where a door could strike it.
- For a bedroom above a sleeping area, follow the maker's mounting instructions carefully and use a secure fixing appropriate to the wall.

Which one should you choose?
For a smaller wall and multiple size choices, start with Still. For a natural-stone focal point, compare Alabaster's three sizes. For a large airy frame, Serene or Hover may suit the wall better. If you actually like a little mechanical sound, the Lull flip clock is a tabletop alternative, not a silent wall clock.
Frequently asked questions
Are silent wall clocks completely silent?
Not necessarily. A maker may describe a sweeping quartz movement as quiet or non-ticking, but motor sounds and room acoustics vary. We have not measured these clocks in a silent room.
What size wall clock works in a bedroom?
An 8–12 in diameter fits many smaller wall areas; 14–16 in makes a stronger visual statement. Tape a paper circle of the listed size to the wall and view it from your pillow.
Do wall clocks include batteries and mounting hardware?
It varies. Serene's listing specifies one AA battery but not necessarily that one is included. Alabaster's current listing does not state the battery or hardware contents, so ask before ordering if needed.
Is a flip clock a quiet bedroom clock?
A physical flip clock usually makes some sound as cards turn. Lull's listing specifically describes a soft click each minute, so choose it only if that sound appeals to you.
Can I hang a stone clock above a bed?
Only with secure mounting suitable for the clock's weight and your wall material, following the maker's instructions. If you cannot confirm the hardware or substrate, choose another location.
