You should not have to guard your nightstand lamp from a nudge. This green marble table lamp sits low and stays exactly where you put it — a hand-blown opal glass globe on a thin aged-brass collar over a dome of solid polished marble, just 26 cm tall with a 10 cm block of real stone beneath.

The white is fused inside the glass, so one warm bulb becomes an even, low pool of light with no hot spot and no visible filament. Inline cord switch, E14 fitting, bulb not included.

Overview

The last thing you look at before you close your eyes is your bedside lamp, and most of them are wrong for the job. Either the bulb is naked under a shade that stops halfway, so you get a bright line straight into your eye from the pillow, or the light is that cold blue-white that tells your body it is still the middle of the afternoon. And the lamp itself is a hollow thing — you reach for it half asleep, catch the shade, and it skates across the wood.

Cobble™ fixes both with materials rather than features. The globe is opal glass, which means the white is fused into the thickness of the glass rather than painted on the inside. Light passes through the wall of it and comes out as one even surface at low brightness — no filament, no hot spot, nothing sharp for a tired eye to land on. From the pillow it reads as a soft moon rather than a bulb.

And the base is not a stand, it is a 10 cm dome of solid quarried marble. Almost all of the lamp’s weight sits in the bottom third, under the centre of the globe, so it does the thing a bedside lamp actually has to do: stay put. A sleepy hand, a duvet dragged across the nightstand, a cat’s shoulder — it moves the lamp and does not tip it.

At 26 cm tall the whole thing sits below eye level when you are lying down, so the lit globe never lands in your sightline the way a taller shade does. Three stones, all of them quiet. Carrara white disappears into a cream or oak room. Verde green is the one to pick if you want the lamp to be the object on the nightstand — the veining is deep and properly green in daylight. Nero black is the heaviest-looking of the three and sits best against pale plaster.

Care

Dust the glass with a dry microfibre cloth; if it needs more, breathe on it and wipe, and never spray cleaner near the fitting. Marble is porous and reacts to acid, so keep vinegar, citrus cleaners and anything descaling well away from the base — a damp cloth and a dry buff is all it wants. Wipe spills off the stone straight away rather than letting them sit, and stand it on a hard surface rather than a folded cloth so the felted underside stays flat. Let the bulb cool before you lift the globe. Do not carry the lamp by the glass; lift it by the marble, which is where the weight is.

Materials

Hand-blown opal glass globe shade, a thin turned aged-brass collar ring, and a base turned from a solid block of quarried marble — Carrara white, verde green or nero black, so the veining on your lamp is its own. Dimensions are the supplier’s own measured figures: 26 cm tall overall, glass globe Ø 15 cm, marble base Ø 10 cm. Shipping weight is 5 kg, most of which is the stone. Corded electric, mains powered; bulb not included. Because the base is natural stone, no two are identical in pattern or in exact shade.

Cobble™ Marble Lamp glowing on a floating oak nightstand in a warm Japandi bedroom

Low light, at pillow height

On a floating nightstand it throws a warm amber wash up the plaster and a soft pool across the oak — enough to find a glass of water or read a page by, dim enough to leave on while you drift off. Because the globe sits at 26 cm, the light comes from below your eyeline rather than down into it.

A hand reaching to switch on the Cobble™ Marble Lamp beside a bed at night

Findable with your eyes shut

There is nothing to aim at. The globe is a 15 cm sphere and the brass collar is a hard edge your fingers land on, so you reach once and you have it. And with 5 kg of stone in the base, reaching for it in the dark moves the lamp rather than knocking it over.

Cobble™ Marble Lamp with labels for the opal glass globe, aged brass collar and solid marble base

Three materials, no plastic

Hand-blown opal glass, a turned aged-brass collar, and a base cut from a solid block of quarried marble — which is why the veining on yours is not the veining in this photograph. Nothing painted, nothing moulded, nothing that reads as plastic at close range.

Finally a lamp I can leave on

I read on my side and every other bedside lamp I've owned puts the bulb right in my eye at that angle. This one doesn't, because it's short and the glass is properly milky rather than clear with a white bulb behind it. Got the verde. It is greener in daylight than in the photos and much darker at night, almost black-green, which I like. Heavier than I expected — I had to lift it with two hands out of the box.

Survives a Labrador tail

Bought it after the last one went off the nightstand. This has been clipped twice and just slid a couple of centimetres. The marble is doing all the work — it's genuinely low and dense, not a hollow base with a weight in it. One thing worth knowing: it's small. 26 cm is shorter than it looks online, so if you want a lamp that fills a big empty nightstand this isn't it.

The white marble is warmer than Carrara usually is

I was braced for a cold grey-white because that's what marble bases usually are, and it's not — there's a cream cast to it that sits properly against a limewash wall. The veining is faint on mine, more of a smoke than a stripe. Bulb isn't included, which is fair enough but worth knowing before it arrives. I put a 2700K in it and it's exactly the colour in the photos.

Frequently asked questions

Is the marble real stone or a printed finish?
Real quarried marble, turned as a solid dome rather than a shell over a weight. The clearest evidence is the shipping weight — 5 kg for a lamp only 26 cm tall, and almost all of it in the bottom 8 cm. The practical consequence is that the veining on your lamp is its own: the pattern, the density of the figuring and the exact depth of colour vary block to block, and the verde and nero in particular read considerably darker in low light than they do in daylight.
How bright is it — can I read by it?
At close range, yes — comfortably enough for a page held at reading distance. It is not a task light and will not light a whole room; the opal glass exists to spread the bulb out and take the edge off it, which costs you brightness on purpose. Think bedside glow, a shelf in the evening, or a hallway console. Since the bulb is yours to choose, brightness is somewhat in your hands: a warm 2700K bulb around 400 lumens gives the colour and level in these photographs.
It looks small. How big is it really?
It is small, deliberately. 26 cm tall in total, with a 15 cm glass globe and a 10 cm marble base — so roughly the height of a wine bottle and the footprint of a mug. That is the whole point: it clears a stack of books and stays below your eyeline when you are lying down. If you are dressing a wide nightstand and want something with presence, look at a taller lamp instead — Cobble™ will read as a small object beside a big bed.
Which stone should I pick?
Carrara white is the quiet one — a warm cream-white with faint smoky veining that disappears into a cream, plaster or pale-oak room. Verde green is the statement: deep bottle-green with pale crackled veining, properly green in daylight and almost black at night, and the one to choose if you want the lamp to be the object on the nightstand. Nero black is the densest looking of the three, near-black with fine white threading, and it works hardest against pale walls and light wood.
Does it come with a bulb?
No — bulb not included. Pick a warm E14 bulb, 2700K or lower: opal glass spreads whatever colour sits behind it, so a cool white bulb turns the glow cold and flat. A frosted or opal bulb also keeps the surface even rather than showing a bright core.
How do I clean it without ruining the stone?
Damp cloth, dry buff, nothing else. Marble is porous and it is calcium carbonate, which means acid etches it — so vinegar, lemon, bathroom sprays and descalers will leave a dull mark that does not polish out at home. Water rings from a glass left on the stone are the other common one; wipe spills off rather than letting them sit. The glass globe is easier: dry microfibre, and if it needs more, breathe on it and wipe. Never spray anything near the fitting.

Customer service 10/10. Color: Jade Green The color and marbling in this lamp is even prettier in person. It’s definitely heavy so you know it’s a quality material. The charging port in the first lamp I received was busted — I messaged the seller and they let me keep it and sent me a brand new one for free! I’m using the broken one as a book end and the working one is being used as decor at my wedding for the sweet heart table. ) !Customer service 10/10 ! !Customer service 10/10 ! ! ! Beautiful Lamp. Color: Jade Green First, this item was well packaged for protection with a molded foam insert and plastic corner protectors on the outside of the box. Upon opening you can’t help but note how stunning this lamp is. It’s a natural marble so each will be unique but I was very pleased with the pattern of the piece I received. I’m am so excited to use this piece in multiple ways throughout my space. I will mentioned as it is shipped from overseas it took a while to arrive but it’s worth the wait. ) !Beautiful Lamp ! !Beautiful Lamp ! ! ! HEAVY!!!!. Color: Jade Green I like it, its really pretty but is very small and EXTREMELY heavy!! Like solid rock! It could definitely hurt someone if it fell or something.. also the touch control is very sensitive and sometimes it turns on or off and I swear I didnt even touch it which can be a little annoying at times... I probably wouldn't purchase again for the price but it is nice looking as pictured and is definitely solid! It has 3 different light settings and you can dim them all to your liking. )

Make sure to check charging port before keeping!!. Color: Jade Green Was so excited about this light I unwrapped it and everything was fine until I went to charge it for the first time and the charger inside the marble was completely bent and did not allow me to charge it so now it's completely unusable. )

Really pretty. Packaged well. Color: Jade Green Nice. Beautiful. Love it. It was a splurge but I'm glad I bought it. I hope it lasts. I've had other cordless lamps that did not. Time will tell. )

Pretty, but not functional. Color: Jade Green I purchased two of these lamps, and I love the aesthetics of the design and stone. However, neither lamp holds a charge; after a minute or less they shut off. Very disappointed. )
