A room settles around a single weight, and a shelf is steadier when it has an anchor. This handcrafted travertine stone sphere is dense and quietly grounding — set it down and the books lean toward it, the vases gather around it, and the surface finally feels composed.

  • Dense, substantial natural travertine with real stone weight
  • Handcrafted form with the texture and weight of real stone
  • Gives a shelf or mantel a quiet focal point
  • A grounding presence for a quiet room

Set one where your eye keeps drifting and let it quietly hold the whole space together.

Product Info

Solid natural travertine

Material

Ø 8, 10 & 12 cm

Sizes

Overview

A sphere of natural travertine — the same pitted Roman stone that built bathhouses and temples — honed to a perfect ball. Each one is cut from a different bed, so the pitting and banding on yours exist nowhere else.

Care

Dust with a soft dry cloth. Travertine is porous — keep oils and liquids away, and lift rather than roll it across delicate surfaces. It's genuinely heavy: keep it clear of shelf edges.

Materials

Solid natural travertine, hand-honed to a smooth matte sphere. Available in Ø 8, 10 and 12 cm. Natural pitting and banding vary piece to piece — each sphere is one of one.

The anchor a shelf needs

A stack of art books, a mail tray, a drifting pile — one dense sphere set in front and it all settles and stays.

Light does the styling

As the sun moves, the open pores fill with shadow and the sphere changes character — matte at noon, cratered at dusk.

Tivoli™ Stone Sphere — solid natural travertine, three sizes 8 to 12 cm, no two alike

Why Tivoli

Three sizes that cluster into the still life stylists chase — real stone, in the simplest possible form.

The shelf finally sits still

I styled our oak shelf for a year and it always looked temporary. One 10 cm sphere in front of the books and the whole thing settled down. The pitting is much prettier in person — like tiny craters.

Heavier than it looks

The 12 cm one has serious weight — it now holds down the mail tray and nothing moves. The beige banding picks up our limewash wall almost exactly.

Bought one, came back for two

Started with the small one on the nightstand. Ended up with all three lined down the console like moons. Guests always pick up the little one first.

Frequently asked questions

Is it real travertine?
Yes — each sphere is honed from a solid block of natural travertine. The pores, pits and banding are the stone's own, not a moulded effect.
How heavy are they?
Stone-heavy: the 8 cm ball is about half a kilo, the 12 cm noticeably more. That weight is exactly what makes them such good anchors for shelves and trays.
Which size should I choose?
Ø 8 cm for nightstands and desks, Ø 10 cm for shelves and stacked books, Ø 12 cm for consoles and coffee tables. The trio together is the stylist's move.
Will it match my room?
Travertine lives in the warm beige-to-cream family — the same palette as oak, linen and limewash — so it settles into warm-neutral rooms effortlessly.
Can it scratch furniture?
The honed surface is smooth, but stone is stone — on high-gloss or soft wood, set it on a tray, a stack of books, or a felt dot.
Why does mine look different from the photo?
Because no two blocks of travertine are alike. Pore pattern and banding vary from sphere to sphere — that variation is exactly what you're buying.

The travertine on this is rich, full of texture with beautiful cream and tan colors. It is solid and has the weight of the real thing. Excellent piece.
