Most miniature tableware is moulded plastic or painted resin — thick rims, flat glaze, a decal sitting on top rather than under.

Petit is the real thing: kiln-fired porcelain with the cobalt pattern set beneath the glaze and true fired gold on every rim. Fifteen pieces in all — a lidded teapot, sugar bowl and creamer, four scallop-edged plates, four saucers and four tiny looped teacups.

Care

Dust with a soft dry brush, or wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry it at once — never soak or dishwasher, water dulls the fired gold. Decorative only, and kept well out of reach of children and pets.

Hold one plate up to the window and the difference shows: the rim is thin enough to glow through, the glaze has real depth, and the gold band catches light with a metallic lustre because it was fired on rather than painted.
