Product Info

Glazed porcelain with a cobalt floral pattern and fired gold rims

Material

15-piece set, true 1:12 scale — teapot 33 mm tall

Sizes

Overview

Most miniature tableware is moulded plastic or painted resin, with thick rims, a flat glaze and a decal on top of the glaze and not under it.

Tisane is real porcelain, fired in a kiln, with the cobalt pattern under the glaze and true fired gold on every rim. There are fifteen pieces in all: a lidded teapot, a sugar bowl and a creamer, four plates with scalloped edges, four saucers and four tiny teacups with looped handles.

Care

Dust with a soft, dry brush, or wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry at once. Never soak it or put it in a dishwasher, because water dulls the fired gold. It is decorative only and should be kept well out of reach of children and pets.

Materials

White porcelain, fired in a kiln and glazed, with the cobalt-blue floral pattern under the glaze in the old blue-onion manner and a thin band of real fired gold on every rim.

  • Material: glazed, kiln-fired porcelain with fired gold rims
  • Pieces: 15, namely a teapot, sugar bowl, creamer, 4 plates, 4 saucers and 4 cups
  • Scale: True 1:12 — teapot 33 mm, plates 24 mm, saucers 17 mm, cups 12 mm
  • Set weight: about 68 g for all fifteen pieces

Fifteen pieces made for display

Sits well under a glass cloche or domeCorrectly scaled for the dining room of a 1:12 doll's houseA centrepiece for a curio shelf or vitrine
Glazed porcelainCobalt-blue floralFired gold rims

Kiln-fired, glazed, gold-rimmed

Real porcelain and not plastic

Hold a plate up to the window and the difference is clear: the rim is thin enough for light to glow through, the glaze has real depth, and the gold band has a metallic lustre because it was fired on and not painted.

The 33mm porcelain teapot held between two fingertips, being placed on an oak shelf beside miniature cups and plates

Mind the scale

Being tiny is the point

A teacup would disappear inside the bowl of a teaspoon. It is scaled for a curio shelf or a glass cloche, not a coffee table, and that extreme scale is what makes it worth collecting.

Vitrine, cloche or doll's house

For the shelf, not the toy box

At true 1:12 scale it belongs in the dining room of a doll's house, but it looks just as considered under a glass cloche, set out in the compartments of an old printer's tray, or grouped on a bookshelf beside something oversized for contrast.

The gold rims are actually gold

I've bought three miniature sets over the years and the rims were always a flat yellow line. These catch the light like real gilding. Under my desk lamp the teapot looks like something lifted out of a museum cabinet.

Genuinely 1:12 — I measured it

Bought it for a Georgian dollhouse dining room and it scales correctly against the chairs, which is rarer than you'd think. The teapot came in at 33 mm on my callipers, exactly as listed. The four cups are so small I place them with tweezers.

A styling piece for grown-up shelves

Ordered it as a styling piece for a bell jar on the hall console and it is perfect there. Do not hand it to a child though — the cups are smaller than a pea. Arrived with all fifteen pieces intact in a foam tray.

Frequently asked questions

How small is it in practice?
Tiny by design: small enough to sit inside a glass cloche or a curio drawer without crowding it, with cups smaller than a shirt button. Full measurements for each piece are in the product info above.
What are the fifteen pieces?
One lidded teapot, one lidded sugar bowl, one open creamer with two handles, four dinner plates with scalloped edges, four saucers and four teacups: fifteen in all, with each lid counted with its pot.
Is the porcelain real?
Yes. It is glazed porcelain fired in a kiln, with the cobalt-blue floral pattern under the glaze and a thin band of fired gold on each rim. It is not resin, plastic or a polymer made to look like ceramic.
Will it fit my doll's house?
It is true 1:12 scale, the standard for doll's houses and room boxes, so it sits correctly with 1:12 tables and chairs. In a 1:6 setting it looks like china for a child, and in 1:24 it looks oversized.
Can I really use it for tea?
Not really. The teapot holds only a few drops, so it is made to be looked at and not drunk from. Treat it as a display piece.
Is it suitable for children?
No. The teacups are about 12 mm across and the lid finials are smaller, which makes them a real choking hazard. This is a collector's and styling object for adults, so keep it out of reach of small children and pets.
