Most small brass animals are a silhouette and nothing more — you know the shape from two metres and stop looking.

A dragonfly is four wings. These carry a full net of raised veins, a central rib with cross-veins branching to the tip, which is the whole reason to have one.

Care

A dry cloth is all it needs, and a soft brush lifts dust from the vein grooves. Unlacquered, so it darkens where your fingers rest — or a little brass polish brings the ribs back bright.

Materials

Solid cast brass, left unlacquered, with the detail cast in rather than applied — four veined wings, an eight-segment tapering tail, a domed-eyed head and six legs, all one casting.

Is it solid brass or plated?
Cast brass all the way through — not plated steel, not resin with a brass-coloured coat. You can see it on the underside, left as raw cast metal with the six legs standing proud. No lacquer either, so the surface keeps changing with handling.
