You get a brass dragonfly figurine cast in one solid piece, 7.4 cm across the wings. Each wing carries a full net of raised veins — grooves darkened, ribs rubbed back to bright brass — so light catches a different pattern with every turn.

With no base and no lacquer, it rests directly on any surface and asks only for a place where the light moves.

  • One solid piece of cast brass, 7.4 cm across the wings
  • Full net of raised veins on every wing
  • Darkened grooves and bright rubbed ribs for depth
  • No base, no lacquer — rests directly on the surface

Perch this brass dragonfly figurine by a window and let the light play across its wings.

Overview

Most small brass animals are an outline and nothing more: you recognise the shape from two metres away and stop looking.

A dragonfly is four wings. These have a full net of raised veins, a central rib with cross-veins branching to the tip, and that is the reason to own one.

Care

A dry cloth is all it needs, and a soft brush lifts dust from the vein grooves. It has no lacquer, so it darkens where your fingers rest; a little brass polish brightens the ribs again.

Materials

Solid cast brass with no lacquer, with the detail cast in and not applied: four veined wings, a tapering tail of eight segments, a head with domed eyes and six legs, all in one casting.

  • Finish: antiqued, with recesses darkened to bronze-brown and high points rubbed to bright brass
  • Build: full vein relief on top, and a raw-cast underside with the legs standing out
  • Size: ~7.4 cm long diagonal, ~5.1 cm short diagonal, ~15–20 g

Each vein is cast in

The detail is in the wings

Each wing has a central rib with cross-veins branching to the tip. The grooves are darkened and the ribs rubbed bright, so the wings show as line and not as shine. It looks best where light falls on it low and from the side.

The finish

Brass left uncoated

No lacquer and no plating. The vein grooves stay dark while the ribs, tail segments and eyes warm and deepen where your fingers return to them.

True to scale

The right size for the edge of a shelf

It fits between pinched fingertips: a desk corner, the edge of a shelf, a tea tray or a windowsill. The last image has the measurements marked on it.

The vein detail is the whole reason to buy it

I have a few small brass pieces and most of them are just a shape. This one you actually look at. Every wing has the central rib and all the little cross-veins branching off, running right to the end rather than fading out halfway. Sits on the sill above my kitchen sink where the morning sun comes in sideways and the ribs light up along the top edge.

Lovely in raking light

The patina is proper: dark bronze down in the grooves, bright gold on the raised ribs and tail rings, so it looks like something found rather than something bought. Sits flat on my walnut desk on its little legs and does not rock.

One casting, nothing to come loose

Nothing is glued on — wings, body and tail are all one piece, so there is nothing that can work loose. The vein relief runs right out to the wingtips. Lovely object, lives on my tea tray.

Frequently asked questions

How large is it?
7.4 cm across the wings on the long diagonal and 5.1 cm on the short, so it fits between pinched fingertips. One of the photos shows it held between two fingers.
Is the brass solid rather than plating?
Cast brass throughout, not plated steel and not resin with a brass-coloured coat. The underside shows it, left as raw cast metal with the six legs standing out. There is no lacquer either, so the surface goes on changing with handling.
Are the wings made separately?
No. The wings, body, tail and head are one casting from one mould, so nothing is glued, pinned or slotted on and nothing can come loose. Lift it by the body, and it sits well on a desk, shelf, tray or windowsill.
Does its surface gradually alter with use?
Yes, as intended. The brass has no lacquer, so the bright ribs and tail segments warm and slowly darken where your fingers rest, while the vein grooves stay dark. Brass polish on the high points restores the shine if you prefer it bright.
