The problem with incense has never been the incense. It is the grey drift you find the next morning — on the shelf, on the books, on top of the speaker — because a conventional holder lays the stick flat over a small tray and the burning tip spends most of its life overhanging something.

This is borosilicate glass and a machined brass lid rather than the usual ceramic dish — an object you leave out in plain sight, not one you tuck away when it is not lit.

Care

Let it cool before lifting the lid — the metal disc sits above the burning tip and holds heat for a few minutes. Then tip the tube over a bin and the ash comes out in one go. Every few weeks, warm soapy water and a long soft bottle brush clears the resin film off the glass. Stand it somewhere flat and stable, and as with any incense, never leave it burning unattended.

Will my incense sticks fit?
The slot takes straight sticks 1.0 to 3.0 mm thick, which covers most Japanese incense and standard Indian agarbatti. The stick also needs to be short enough to hang clear of the glass floor. Straight sticks only — cones, coils and backflow incense need a different burner.
Does it really stop the ash escaping?
Yes, and it is geometry rather than a claim. The stick hangs down the centre line of the tube, so the burning tip has glass on every side and nothing but glass floor below it. Ash falls vertically and lands inside. The only way to get it out is to tip the tube — which is how you empty it.
How do I clean it?
Once cold, lift the lid and tip the tube upside down over a bin. That is the whole routine. Every few weeks a pale resin film builds on the inside — warm water, washing-up liquid and a long soft bottle brush clears it.
Does the lid get hot?
It sits directly over the burning tip, so give it a few minutes after the stick goes out before lifting it. The glass itself stays close to room temperature down its length. Stand the tube somewhere flat and stable, and as with any incense, do not leave it burning unattended.
