Nearly every Lady Justice sold as a desk ornament cheats in the same place: the scales are moulded into the hand as one rigid lump.

These hang: a metal beam, fine chains and two pans that swing and settle level, with the blindfold, the classical knot of hair and the deep folds of the robe modelled to match.

Care

Dust with a soft, dry brush in preference to a cloth, because it reaches into the folds of the drapery and the scrollwork and passes the balance chains. Keep it out of long, direct sun, and do not use polish or solvents: the bronze look is a surface finish and not oxidised metal.
